NLDC Outstanding Learner Engagement Award

WiN- BUILDING BRIDGES

This year Women in Neighbourhoods (WiN) received an Outstanding Learner Engagement Award for their ‘Building Bridges’ project.

Funded by Neighborhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC), Building Bridges has 130 new learners in Great Lever, Halliwell, Crompton and Rumworth. Its aim was to engage women in deprived neighbourhoods and boost self-confidence, help to overcome feelings of low self-esteem through courses and initiatives such as ‘Reach Out’ and ‘Mind Your Mind’, IT in Mosques, Second Helpings, My Shop – Enterprise 4U and Tell Your Story- Community Corner.

Gulnaz Brennan, Chair & Founder of WiN said, “We are very grateful to Bolton College and NLDC fund for giving us the opportunity. The award is an honour and testimony to the hard work of WiN team, participants and volunteers. NLDC plays a vital role in addressing the learning need in communities in deprived areas.”

Learners were also signposted to specialist support like housing, domestic abuse, money-wise etc. These courses were provided in a non-threatening, culturally sensitive environment for women and addressed issues like stress, mental health, healthy lifestyles and skills for life.
