The idea of exploring a new culture and contributing to meaningful work immediately appealed to me, so I committed to raising the necessary funds. I worked tirelessly, offering household help to neighbors and relatives, organizing a bake sale at my dad’s office, selling unwanted clothes, and even sacrificing my birthday funds.
